Numa Verse

Contribute to the standard.

Numa Verse is building theology as a community. The scholarship the Church already trusts is the baseline, and theologians, scholars, pastors and students build on it together. Every contribution is peer-reviewed, and every accepted contribution carries its author’s name.

Who

Who contributes?

Anyone who studies, teaches or writes theology at a serious level. Contributors range from senior faculty with decades of published work to students in their first years of study. They come from many traditions, universities and seminaries, and they review one another’s work.

Theologians

Authors of published and peer-reviewed work.

Scholars

Faculty and researchers in the fields of study.

Students

Master’s and doctoral students of theology.

Pastors

Ministers who teach from the text every week.

The work

What can you contribute?

Work on the topics and themes in the standard. You can add what the published baseline is missing, verify what is already written, answer questions readers and other contributors raise, and propose what the standard should take up next. You choose the topics that match your field.

Add

Fill a gap the published baseline leaves open.

Verify

Answer

Respond to questions the community raises.

Shape

Which topics need contributors?

Every one of the 31 fields of study is open to contributors. The six fields below are where work is already under way, so a contribution there joins the first topics the standard publishes. Textual criticism leads the order, since every field relies on an established text.

Review and credit

How is your work reviewed and credited?

By your peers, and by name. Each contribution is reviewed by others in its field, then accepted, returned for revision, or declined with reasons. Accepted work enters the standard with your name on it and the names of those who reviewed it.

  1. Step 1

    Submit to a topic

  2. Step 2

    Peer review

  3. Step 3

    Revise or accept

  4. Step 4

    Credited by name

Roles

Which role fits you?

There are four contributor roles, matched to level of study. Each role is paid per accepted contribution, under a contributor agreement that sets out the rates and terms. Your role decides the kind of work you take on and the work you review.

  1. Role 1

    Scribe

    For students of theology
  2. Role 2

    Steward

    For pastors and graduates
  3. Role 3

    Scholar

    For master’s and doctoral theologians
  4. Role 4

    Master Scholar

For senior faculty and published authors

Institutions

How can universities and seminaries take part?

As partners in a shared standard for theology. Faculty can contribute and review, students can contribute under supervision, and published works can enter the baseline with full citation. A partnership gives an institution’s scholarship a place in a standard that people, churches and AI rely on.

The aim

A shared standard for theology, curated by scholars

An education fund for students of theology, funded monthly by Numa Verse. Awards are made on need and merit and paid to the student’s school. The fund is hosted by an independent charity, and contributing to the standard is not a condition of receiving an award.

Questions

Questions from contributors

How am I paid?

Per accepted contribution, at the rate for your role. The rates and payment method are set out in the contributor agreement you sign before your first contribution. Payment follows acceptance, not submission.

Who owns what I write?

[Counsel to confirm. The contributor agreement sets out the rights in your contributions and how they may be used across Numa Verse products.]

Will my name be shown?

Yes. Accepted work carries your name, and your reviewers’ names, as part of the standard’s record. If you want to contribute without being named publicly, say so in your application.

Do I have to state a tradition?

No. It is optional. Some contributors share it so we can match them with the Traditions layer of a topic. If you choose to share it, we ask for your consent first.

Do I need a doctorate to contribute?

No. Each of the four roles matches a level of study, from students of theology as Scribes to senior faculty and published authors as Master Scholars. Every contribution is peer-reviewed in the same way, whatever the contributor’s role.
